When we changed the name of our ensemble from Ensemble Settecento to Austin Baroque Orchestra in order to better brand ourselves for the Austin market, we needed a new logo. The Director wanted something that looked modern and clean but still had some connection to our Baroque roots. We went through a design process with over 20 options before we finally settled on this logo.
I found the typeface Ivory, which has a lovely set of customized ornaments for each letter, and abstracted the ornaments to use in my typographic solution.

have a small business selling my masks online and at events and needed a logo and business card to represent myself.
My business name is derived from my view of my life as a constant journey of heart and soul. I used shapes of the quatrefoil and the scallop shell to allude to the journeys of Medieval Pilgrims because both my leather mask work and many of my costume designs have their roots in Medieval and Renaissance drama. I created the 4-color version first, and then simplified the design so that I could eventually have a custom leather stamp made from it to use on my masks,

When I was brought into the process of this logo design, I was given a very rough drawing of the heraldic shield that the client wanted to use to represent themselves as my basis for the logo. I recreated the shield in a higher quality and more visually appealing format using a combination of stock images, 3D rendering and digital painting. I then designed the logo around the heraldry and created several variations so that it could be used horizontally and vertically.

I wanted to include a sample of the process that I go through in designing a logo to show the many variations possible. I start with what I consider to be the central text element, and explore many, many typefaces and arrangements both through sketching and in digital form. I then start to digitally integrate thematic or visual elements that make the logo unique. You can tell that the final logo ended up to be a combination of two of the logo variations you see here.
